We regret to announce the passing on of Prof. Mohammed Hussaini Sani who was a Council Member of Africa Farm Management Association (AFMA) representing Western Africa. Prof. Sani suddenly died on the 29th June, 2023 at his residence in Bauchi, Nigeria.

Prof. Mohammed Hussaini Sani, originally from Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria, was a respected scholar and family man. He held the esteemed position of a Professor of Agricultural Economics, specializing in Production and Applied Economics, Econometrics, and Sustainability. Born in 1964, he earned his B.Sc. in Economics in 1986, followed by an M.Sc. in Economics in 1993, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics in 2000.

Prof. Sani had a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors. He embarked on his professional journey in 1988 as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Business Administration and Management, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Nigeria. He steadily progressed to the role of Lecturer III before transitioning to the banking industry. Between 1994 and 2005, he served at Inland Bank (Nigeria) Plc, followed by First Inland Bank Plc from 2006 to 2008. Throughout his banking career, he also dedicated time as a part-time lecturer at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, Nigeria, from 1996 to 2001, and later at the National Open University of Nigeria in 2008-2009.

Subsequently, Prof. Sani joined the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi on July 25, 2009, as a Senior Lecturer. His unwavering commitment and expertise eventually led to his promotion as a Professor of Agricultural Economics.

Beyond his teaching and research responsibilities, Prof. Sani actively contributed to the university and his community through various administrative and service-oriented roles. He successfully guided both undergraduate and postgraduate students to the completion of their studies. Prof. Sani also left a notable imprint in the academic world by publishing numerous scholarly articles in esteemed national and international journals. Furthermore, he authored technical reports on research initiated by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), focusing on the mid-term beneficiary impact assessment of Fadama III in Gombe State, Nigeria.

His research interests encompassed production and applied economics, inventory modeling applications in agriculture, agricultural support tools and management, Fadama agriculture and sustainability, contract farming systems, gender issues in agriculture, and labor management.

In recognition of his expertise and dedication, Prof. Sani was elected as the West Africa Representative in the Council of the Africa Farm Management Association (AFMA) in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2021. During his tenure, he not only served with distinction but also actively encouraged colleagues from Western Africa to join AFMA as members. The AFMA Council and the entire AFMA community, along with his family, deeply mourn the loss of Prof. Mohammed Hussaini Sani. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
